Honey Paddle Harvest
For the last two years we have been telling people we are in the process of “developing” a honey and cut flower farm. Now the hives are installed, the fence is built, the new barn is completed, the irrigation system is set-up, and we are entering our third growing season, our dream is starting to take shape. In fact, we’re almost ready to start describing ourselves as a new farm, instead of a developing one.
Meadowfoam will be our first honey release of 2022 and if you haven’t tried it, you will want to add this to your list of new things to try. Over 8 acres of meadowfoam will start blooming for the bees at Honey Paddle Farm in May and we will start extracting delicious honey in June. Meadowfoam honey has vanilla notes, and the flavor has hints of marshmallows. It is a tasty addition to tea or on top of anything toasted. After meadowfoam, we move on to harvesting our signature release of McKenzie River Blossom Honey, then will honey chase a crop of phacelia, and will end the year with a batch of Buckwheat Honey.
Last fall, we planted three thousand tulips. Some early achievers out of the tulip planting at Honey Paddle Farm are already popping up! Tulips will sprout depending on the weather and if the warm spell continues, we may have tulips by Valentine’s Day. However, walking the farm flower field during the wet season can be a slippery endeavor, so be on the lookout for early bunches of tulips available for local delivery. We will announce tulip updates to Honey Chasers first then will make an announcement on social media.
The next flower crop will occur late spring with sweet peas, and we’re excited for you to see and smell the delightful, colorful bunches. Overall, we will be adding over fifty varieties of cut-flowers to Honey Paddle’s you-pick field this year.
We anticipate Honey Paddle Farm’s flower season to start around mid-June and end in October. Our you-pick flower fields will be open on the weekends, Saturday, and Sunday, from 10 am-4 pm. We can also accommodate small groups (6-10 people) during the week, by appointment during the harvest season.
